2017-01-11T02:39:39+00:00

Heavenly Sword is a dramatic tale of revenge that sees Nariko (Anna Torv), a fiery red-haired heroine, embark on a quest for vengeance against the invading King Bohan (Alfred Molina) and his army. Once considered the failure of a legendary prophecy, Nariko must wield a sword that was ultimately meant for another.

This ancient Heavenly Sword, once belonging to a powerful deity, can never be wielded by a mortal without it slowly and inevitably killing them. For Nariko, it is a race against time to avenge her clan before her life is irreparably overtaken by the omnipotent Heavenly Sword.

Human Revolution – Deus Ex – Short Film

Human Revolution – Deus Ex

Based on the video game Deus Ex Human Revolution, the film dives into the world of Adam Jensen, a Sarif industries’ security consultant that gets augmented after an incident that almost took his life away.

Although the film doesn’t follow the narrative of the game exactly, it remains true to the theme while focusing on the relationship between Adam Jensen, and his ex girlfriend Megan Reed, a scientist hand picked by Serif Industries to head Cybernetic Augmentations.

Megan is taken by the Illuminati and is asked to assist them in turning on a mysterious device but she refuses to cooperate. Jensen has been looking for Megan since she was kidnapped and has finally pinpointed her location. Adam faces a complication that he did not account for; Yelena Federova, an Augmented assassin is at the facility where Megan is being held. The film also taps, even if briefly, into Adam’s mind and the struggle he must face on daily basis.

Is Rockstar Games Sexist?

2017-01-12T15:17:36+00:00

I have to say that I’ve played and enjoyed all of Rockstar’s games but I’ve noticed that there has never been a female leading character. This being said, there is no shortage of female characters, they’re just used as prostitutes, strippers, cheating wives/girlfriends, one night stands and in the general public they are always stereotyped as materialistic and shallow.

I know most women are familiar with the Bechdel Test which is a simple test that names the following criteria:

  • It has to have at least two women in it, who …
  • Talk to each other, about …
  • Something besides a man.

This applies to movies but it should also apply to video games as well. Though there are a few games that follow this rule for example the Tomb Raider series, Blood Rayne one, two and betrayal, Child of Light etc. I could name a few but that’s a few, they’re definitely in the minority and for all Rockstar games this rule is non-existent. I will excuse Red Dead Redemption though because it was set in the year 1911 and they were going for authenticity which they nailed to the T.

One last thing I have to say that I truly believe that Rockstar is sexist is that in their latest entry Grand Theft Auto 5, there were three leading characters, I would’ve thought that this was their opportunity to implement a female character as one of the protagonist but no, they didn’t. Now I know a lot of people would say that you can play as a female character on Grand Theft Auto Online but I have played as a female character online and there wasn’t much effort in the design and mannerisms for them.

Trying to create a female character was a task because my end result always turned out looking like a drugged up junkie and most of the female mannerisms were copied from the male character except for when they walked or when they were shopping for clothes which then again portrayed women as materialistic and shallow.
I enjoy these games but if you’re someone who is offended by these games, boycott it altogether and hopefully the developers and publishers will pay attention and make a change in the future.

Space Invaders Movie Gets Producers

2017-01-18T00:19:01+00:00

Warner Bros. has acquired the film rights for the classic arcade game ‘Space Invaders‘. The film will be produced by Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend), Joby Harold & Tory Tunnell.

The best thing about this for me is keeping the title alive, if a successful film can be made that will make more people aware about gaming culture then I’m all for it.

I couldn’t help but think of The Last Starfighter when I heard this news. What do you guys think?
